HanGawi- Eating with Conscience, is the answer for all vegetarians visiting NYC!
I went to NYC this time not only to sight see but to have the real essence of NYC and at the same time find myself a place in the city in a spiritual way. HanGawi completed this essence by tying me to NYC city in a unique way. I have always lived out of a suitcase my entire life. I have understood in my travels and escapades that the best ways to feel a city/place is sight see while walking, visiting its local markets and eating at the right places. After a tired walk around the city for six hours with my baby bump, I wanted to sit somewhere, feel welcomed and eat good, healthy and fresh food. Thanks a million to Susan for suggesting this place. I so wanted to have this trip just between Avi and myself before we become 3 and HanGawi gave us a fine dining experience that will always be special and close to my heart.
We were welcomed warmly and thank God for the custom of removing one's shoes before entering ; my feet were numb with all the walking (I am 7 months preggy and walking for 6 hrs!!!). They take away our shoes before we are shown to our seats. We sat down to eat (the Asian way: on a floor cushion) with our bare feet dangling inside a small trench under the table. We ordered the vegetarian dumplings, sweet and sour mushrooms, Kimchi stone bowl rice and some rose tea to sooth us out. It was heavenly! Hot spicy vegetable laden rice with sweet and sour mushroom deserved a standing ovation.
This place is a must visit. Do remember to reserve your table as this place is usually crowded and go on a day where in you want to find peace and harmony at some corner of the busy and madning 5th Ave!
The below is something I normally leave along with a an abnormally huge tip :)-it was well deserved. I totally cleaned my plate.
Thanks to Susan for the lovely suggestion and the Complimentary Kimchi pic had to make it to her BWW event next week.

Thrilled you loved the place. Thank you for your wonderful kimchi photo, Preeti. It's very stylishly asymmetrical and mysterious.
That sounds superb for us to try, I have never had korean food except for kimchi as I am a vegetarian and don't get any options.
