The most healthy rasam of all the other rasams. Garlic does wonder for patients with heart problems and diabetes.
Ingredients:-
1/4 cup of toor dal cooked and mashed with 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
2 pods of garlic grated
1 tsp of tamarind paste
1 small tomato diced/sliced
1 tsp of crushed pepper
1 tsp of jeera
1 tbl spn of rasam powder
3-4 curry leaves
asafoetida to sprinkle
3-4 coriander leaves
0.5 tsp of ghee
salt to taste
Method:-
Heat a pan. Add 2 glass of water, garlic, rasam powder,tamarind paste, tomatoes and curry leaves. Bring it to one boil.
Add the toor dal (this should get 1/2 a glass more of water along with it. If not, then add another glass) and cook for 10 minutes in medium flame till needed consistency. Rasam is normally a little watery.
Add the crushed pepper.
Season the rasam by heating ghee in a small pan. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, coriander leaves and jeera. Wait till the mustard crackles.
Add the seasoning to the rasam.
Serve hot with rice.
