Cafe' Du Monde Style " Beignet Lollypops"

“In France, cooking is a serious art form and a national sport.”
- Julia Child

I have heard Cafe' Du Monde's Beignets are the best in New Orleans! But, what a pity! I didn't have time to go Cafe Du Monte in Jackson Square, when I went to New Orleans. We were pretty much hanging out in Bourbon street (seeing all the flashing fiasco) during 2008 new years eve. Anyways, did get the recipe from food channel magazine. Enjoy them with your coffee or tea.
This contribution is to Divya of Dil Se and Sharmi of Neivedyam for CFK-evening snacks event.

Ingredients:-

1 cup warm milk
1 tsp of baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups (or more) all-purpose flour
oil (for deep-frying)
Powdered sugar

Method:-

Knead the flour, baking powder, salt, butter and warm milk to make a soft and non-sticky dough.
Let it rest for an hour. Keep it wrapped in a plastic wrap
Heat the oil to deep fry.
Keep the oil in low flame in oil. They take a timer to cook.
Make small balls and fry them till they are brown and cooked inside
Coat these balls with powdered sugar (i didn't have them so used my normal sugar)
Insert a tooth pic and serve hot

These look absolutely scrumptious and very reminiscent of the Indian Gulab Jamuns.
